Benazir

Benazir Bhutto (21 June 1953 – 27 December 2007) was a Pakistani politician who served as prime minister and led the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). She was the daughter of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the PPP, and became a prominent figure in Pakistani politics following her father's ouster and execution.

Bhutto became prime minister after the 1988 general election, making her the first woman to head a democratic government in a majority Muslim country. Her first term (1988–1990) pursued social reforms, education, and women's rights, but was constrained by political opposition and a presidency that dismissed her government. She returned to power after the 1993 elections, serving a second term (1993–1996) that faced further political turmoil and corruption allegations, leading to another dismissal.

After leaving office, Bhutto lived in exile for several years and returned to Pakistan in 2007 to participate in elections. She was assassinated on 27 December 2007 while campaigning at a rally in Rawalpindi.

Bhutto was married to Asif Ali Zardari, who later became president, and they had three children: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. Her career elevated the profile of women in Pakistani politics and she remains a polarizing figure known for her advocacy of reform and her role in a turbulent era of Pakistan’s political history.
