Belastningsmodstand

A belastningsmodstand, often translated as a load resistor or simply load, is a component or a network of components that consumes electrical power from a source. It is used to simulate the presence of a real load or to test the performance of a power source, such as a battery, power supply, or generator. In essence, a load resistor is the opposite of a power source; it draws current and converts electrical energy into another form, typically heat or sometimes light.

The purpose of a belastningsmodstand is to provide a predictable and measurable electrical resistance to a circuit. This allows engineers and technicians to determine how a power source will behave under specific operating conditions. For example, when testing a power supply, a load resistor can be used to draw a certain amount of current, allowing verification of voltage regulation, current limiting capabilities, and thermal performance. Similarly, when designing audio amplifiers, a speaker is the load, and a dummy load resistor is often used for testing to avoid damaging the speaker or the amplifier during development.
