Behandlingsmodellene is a collective term used in Norwegian health and social care to describe the different theoretical and practical frameworks that guide treatment planning and delivery. The term encompasses approaches across somatic health, mental health, and social services, and emphasizes that care should be evidence-based, patient-centered, and multidisciplinary.

The models vary in emphasis and method but share a focus on assessment, goal setting, intervention, and evaluation. The biomedical or medical model centers on biological causes and pharmacological or surgical treatments. The biopsychosocial model integrates biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding illness and guiding care. Recovery-oriented and person-centered models prioritize the person’s goals, strengths, and autonomy, often using shared decision making. Integrated care and stepped-care models organize services across levels and providers, with coordination and appropriate intensity of treatment. In substance use and harm reduction contexts, harm-reduction models and motivational interviewing support engagement and gradually reducing risk. Trauma-informed care emphasizes safety, trust, and resilience, recognizing the impact of past trauma on current health.

Implementation considerations: choice of model depends on diagnosis, setting, resources, and patient preferences. Multidisciplinary teams, clear guidelines, documentation, and outcome measurement support quality care. Challenges include balancing standardized approaches with individualized care, ensuring cultural competence, and maintaining ongoing training.
