Batteriesinterlocking is a term used to describe a set of safety and control practices and mechanisms that ensure multiple battery modules or cells are connected and operated in a controlled, mutually safe sequence. The goal is to prevent misconnection, short circuits, reverse polarity, and unsafe charging or discharging conditions during assembly, maintenance, or operation. In practice, batteriesinterlocking can involve both mechanical and electrical interlocks, often integrated with a battery management system (BMS) or safety interlock devices.

Mechanical interlocks rely on physical features such as keyed connectors, interlocking housings, sliding or rotating latches, and safety covers that prevent accidental contact with live terminals. Electrical interlocks use circuit design to enforce sequencing and fault conditions, such as interlock relays, contactors, and sensors that prevent power flow unless all safety conditions are met. Software-based interlocks in a BMS or control system may coordinate with hardware interlocks to ensure safe charging, discharging, and switching between modules.

Common applications include modular energy storage systems, high‑power industrial equipment, electric vehicles, and uninterruptible power supplies, where multiple batteries must be connected in series or parallel without risk of misconnection. Maintenance and replacement procedures often rely on interlocks to enable service only when enclosures are closed and circuits isolated.

Safety considerations include ensuring compatibility with connector standards, environmental resilience, and reliable fault detection. Standards and best practices emphasize lockout/tagout, clear labeling, and regular testing of interlock mechanisms.
