Barphukan
Barphukan is a traditional Assamese title of nobility, historically a high-ranking minister in the Ahom kingdom of Assam. The office of Barphukan was one of the most important appointments in the Ahom administration, second only to the king. The Barphukan was typically entrusted with the military and civil administration of the western part of the kingdom, including the capital city of Guwahati. This region was strategically important due to its proximity to Bengal and the Brahmaputra River.
