Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based street artist, political activist, and filmmaker known for his subversive, satirical, and often politically charged street art and stenciling. The artist's identity remains unknown, contributing to the enigmatic nature of their work. Banksy's art frequently critiques social and political issues, including capitalism, war, nationalism, and human rights, often employing dark humor and irony.

Banksy's career began in the late 1990s in Bristol, England, where they were part of a group of artists known as the "Bristol Underground." Their early works were primarily stencil graffiti, a technique that allowed for quick execution and high visibility. The artist gained international recognition in the early 2000s, with their work appearing in various cities around the world. Banksy's pieces often appear suddenly in public spaces, sometimes only to be removed shortly after, adding to their mystique.

Notable works include *Girl with Balloon* (2002), which depicts a young girl reaching for a red balloon, and *Napalm* (2004), a reimagining of the iconic photograph of the Vietnam War's "Napalm Girl." In 2005, Banksy organized the *Walled Off Hotel* in Bethlehem, Palestine, a hotel with artworks by Banksy and other artists, intended to highlight the situation in the West Bank. The artist has also directed several short films, including *Exit Through the Gift Shop* (2010), which satirizes the art world and the rise of street art.
