BTR80A

The BTR-80A is a Russian eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier. It is an advanced variant of the BTR-80, primarily distinguished by its upgraded armament. Developed in the 1990s, the BTR-80A retains the basic chassis and layout of its predecessor, featuring a fully amphibious design and a low-pressure tire system for improved mobility over varied terrain.

The most significant change in the BTR-80A is its turret. Instead of the BTR-80's 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun and 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun, the BTR-80A is equipped with a new turret housing a 30 mm 2A72 automatic cannon and a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun. The 2A72 cannon offers improved firepower and range compared to the 14.5 mm gun, making the BTR-80A more effective in engaging light armored vehicles and fortified positions.

The BTR-80A can carry a crew of three and up to seven fully equipped soldiers. Its armor provides protection against small arms fire and shell splinters. The vehicle is powered by a YaMZ-236M2 diesel engine, providing a top speed of around 80 km/h on roads. Its amphibious capability allows it to cross water obstacles at speeds up to 9 km/h. The BTR-80A has been exported and used by various countries, participating in numerous military operations.
