Awankeudara

Awankeudara is a coastal city-state and regional economic hub on the western coast of the continent of Thalassa. The city encompasses the historic harbor district and surrounding urban neighborhoods, with a metropolitan population of about 1.2 million. It functions as a constitutional republic with a mayor-council government and a unicameral City Assembly.

The name Awankeudara derives from local terms meaning "water harbor" in the ancestral language of the coastal clans, reflecting its long role as a maritime center. The name has been in continuous use since the early medieval period.

Awankeudara lies in a sheltered bay, with hilly hinterland and a delta river that feeds the port. The climate is tropical with a pronounced wet season from May to November and a dry season from December to April. The harbor handles container traffic and fishery exports.

Founded as a fishing village in the 11th century, Awankeudara grew through trade and shipbuilding. It prospered under successive regional powers and gained autonomous city-status in the mid-19th century. In the 20th century, it developed modern infrastructure and joined a regional economic federation.

Its economy centers on port activities, logistics, seafood processing, and light manufacturing, complemented by tourism. The city hosts annual maritime festivals, a university campus, and several museums. Notable landmarks include the Old Harbor, Dawn Lighthouse, and the City Market.
