Avriningsdata is a standardized, open‑access dataset and metadata schema used for environmental monitoring and biodiversity research. It was developed by the Avrin Consortium and launched in 2016 to facilitate cross‑border data sharing among researchers, public agencies, and citizen science initiatives.

The dataset includes time‑stamped observations, sensor measurements, and geospatial annotations. Core fields include id, timestamp, latitude, longitude, elevation, variable, value, units, quality flag, and source. Data can be stored as CSV, NetCDF, or JSON; a JSON‑LD based metadata schema provides provenance, collection methods, and processing history.

Data come from fixed sensors, mobile surveys, remote sensing products, and citizen science contributions. Ingestion pipelines perform validation, deduplication, unit normalization, and anomaly detection. Quality flags indicate missing data, outliers, or uncertain measurements.

Access is governed by an open data license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC‑BY) and a data governance board. Versioning is applied; changes to schema or data are tracked. Data citations and DOIs are used to ensure traceability and acknowledgment in research outputs.

Applications include academic research, environmental management, and urban planning. The framework supports interoperability across institutions and disciplines, enabling comparative studies and informed policy decisions. Limitations include heterogeneity of sources, metadata completeness, and privacy considerations for finely grained location data, which may require aggregation or access controls in certain contexts.
