Avluftas

Avluftas is the process of removing entrapped air from a closed fluid system to improve circulation, efficiency, and reliability. It is commonly applied in heating and plumbing installations as well as other hydraulic systems where air in the lines can hinder function or cause noise and corrosion.

In heating systems, avluftas helps ensure even distribution of heat in radiators and prevents air locks that can create cold spots or banging noises in pipes. It is also used in domestic hot water systems, solar thermal setups, and some cooling or hydronic installations. Automatic air vents and manual bleed valves are typical components used to achieve avluftas, with higher points in the system often chosen for venting locations.

Common signs of air in a system include radiators that are only partially warm, gurgling or banging sounds in pipes, and reduced overall efficiency. Bleeding or avluftning is often performed when these symptoms appear, or as part of routine maintenance after installation or repair.

Methods range from manual to automatic. Manual avluftas involves opening a bleed valve on each radiator (usually at the top corner) while a container catches the displaced water and air; the valve is closed once water starts to flow steadily. Automatic air vents release air without user intervention but require correct placement and occasional maintenance. After avluftas, system pressure should be checked to ensure safe operation.
