Avalora is a fictional city-state frequently featured in fantasy literature and tabletop role-playing games. It is typically depicted as a coastal urban center on the eastern shore of the continent of Lysara, with a protected harbor linking inland markets to international trade routes.

Avalora sits at the mouth of the Lythos River, with a temperate maritime climate and regular sea fog that gives the harbor a reflective, shifting character.

Avalora grew from a mercantile alliance of guilds that won autonomy in the early Lysaran era. It developed into a prosperous, semi-democratic republic balancing commerce, craft, and diplomacy. Notable moments include the Pact of Lanterns (circa 9th century) and the Great Storm of 1432.

The city is governed by the Luminant Senate, a representative body that convenes in Meridian Hall. A chief magistrate, the Prefect, holds executive authority while an independent judiciary oversees disputes and trade regulation; citizenship extends to free residents.

Avalora is a trading hub for spices, textiles, glassware, and enchanted goods. Guilds regulate production and quality, and the aureli serves as its principal currency.

The population is diverse, shaped by centuries of migration. Festivals such as Lantern Night and the Market of Echoes celebrate craft, music, and storytelling, while schools emphasize literacy, astronomy, and runes.

Avalora blends magic with engineering, featuring tide wards, wind-powered pumps, and harbor wards. Notable sites include the Meridian Gate, the Lantern Market, and the Oceanic Observatory.
