Außerparlamentarisch

Außerparlamentarisch, often abbreviated as APU, refers to political activity and groups that operate outside of the established parliamentary system. This concept is particularly relevant in countries with a representative democracy where elected officials debate and vote on legislation within a parliament. Außerparlamentarische movements aim to influence political decisions, raise public awareness, and advocate for specific causes without holding direct seats in the legislature.

These groups can encompass a wide range of organizations, including protest movements, citizen initiatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), advocacy groups, and informal social movements. Their methods of operation are diverse and can include public demonstrations, lobbying, petitioning, public education campaigns, and direct action. The goals of außerparlamentarische groups vary widely, from environmental protection and human rights to social justice and economic reform.

While operating outside of parliament, these movements can exert significant pressure on political parties and governments. They can shape public discourse, introduce new issues into the political agenda, and mobilize citizens to participate in the democratic process in ways that transcend traditional voting.
