Autostyring

Autostyring, also known as automatic steering or autosteer, refers to a technology that enables a vehicle to steer itself without direct human intervention. This system typically relies on a combination of sensors, cameras, GPS, and sophisticated algorithms to perceive the vehicle's surroundings and maintain its position within a lane or follow a predetermined path. Autostyring is a key component in the development of autonomous driving systems, contributing to advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and paving the way for fully self-driving vehicles.

The core functionality of autostyring involves interpreting data from various sources to make steering adjustments. Cameras often detect lane markings, road edges, and other vehicles, while GPS provides positional information. Lidar and radar sensors can also be employed for more precise environmental mapping and obstacle detection. These inputs are processed by onboard computers that then send commands to the vehicle's power steering system. This means that drivers are still required to remain attentive and be ready to take control of the vehicle at any moment.
