Autentiseringå

Autentiseringå is a term used in some Norwegian-language IT texts to discuss authentication in digital systems. It is not an official standard, but a coined label that appears in educational contexts or hypothetical examples. The word combines autentisering, the Norwegian word for authentication, with the suffix å, and it is sometimes used to illustrate how identity verification fits into access control.

At a high level, autentiseringå refers to the set of processes and technologies that verify an entity’s claimed identity and establish trust before granting access to resources. It involves authenticating the identity claim, validating credentials, and determining what actions the entity is permitted to perform.

Common methods include passwords or passkeys, biometrics, and hardware security keys (for example, FIDO2/WebAuthn). In modern architectures, authentication is often supported by an identity provider that issues tokens or assertions, and by protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or SAML for cross-domain use.
