Autentificere

Autentificere is a term that may appear in Romanian texts but is not the standard Romanian noun for the concept. The canonical form used in Romanian is autentificare, which denotes the act or process of verifying identity or genuineness. The corresponding verb is a autentifica, meaning to authenticate. Autentificere, when encountered, is typically viewed as a nonstandard variant or a direct adaptation from other languages. In ordinary usage, autentificare is preferred.

In information security and technology, autentificare refers to the process of confirming a claimed identity. This involves validating credentials such as passwords, cryptographic keys, tokens, or biometric measures. Authentication is distinct from authorization, which occurs after identity has been established and determines what actions a user or system is allowed to perform. Modern systems often employ multi-factor authentication (MFA), combining factors from what users know (passwords), what they have (tokens or devices), and what they are (biometrics).

Common methods and technologies include passwords or passcodes, hardware or software authenticators, biometrics, and cryptographic approaches such as digital certificates.
