Aurinkolämmittimet

Aurinkolämmittimet, also known as solar thermal collectors, are devices designed to capture solar energy and convert it into heat. This heat is then typically used for water heating or space heating. The fundamental principle behind their operation is the absorption of sunlight by a dark surface, which then transfers this heat to a fluid, usually water or a mixture of water and antifreeze, circulating within the collector.

There are several common types of aurinkolämmittimet. Flat-plate collectors consist of an insulated box with a transparent cover, a dark absorber plate, and fluid-carrying pipes. Evacuated tube collectors, on the other hand, utilize a series of glass tubes, each containing an absorber pipe surrounded by a vacuum. The vacuum significantly reduces heat loss, making evacuated tube collectors more efficient, especially in colder climates or when higher temperatures are required.

The heated fluid from the collectors is then pumped to a storage tank. In domestic hot water systems, this tank is usually a well-insulated cylinder where the solar-heated water is stored for later use. For space heating, the heated fluid can be circulated through radiators or underfloor heating systems.

The installation of aurinkolämmittimet can lead to significant reductions in energy costs associated with heating water and buildings. They are considered a renewable energy source, contributing to a lower carbon footprint. System design and sizing depend on factors such as geographic location, climate, and the specific heating demands of the building.
