Atribuutimist is a term used in psychology and sociology to describe the process by which individuals explain the causes of behavior and events. It involves making inferences about why something happened, whether it's our own actions or the actions of others. These attributions can be internal, meaning they are attributed to personal characteristics, traits, or motivations, or external, meaning they are attributed to situational factors, environment, or circumstances beyond an individual's control.

The theory of attribution suggests that people are motivated to understand the world around them and maintain a sense of control and self-esteem. When attributing causes, individuals often consider factors like consensus (whether others behave similarly), distinctiveness (whether the behavior is unique to the situation), and consistency (whether the behavior occurs repeatedly over time). A common bias in attribution is the fundamental attribution error, where people tend to overemphasize internal factors and underestimate external factors when explaining the behavior of others. Conversely, the self-serving bias leads individuals to attribute their successes to internal factors and their failures to external factors.
