Athrar

Athrar is a fictional city-state in the world of Elaria, situated on a sheltered western harbor and serving as a regional commercial hub within the Athran Confederacy. The name derives from the ancient Athran word for "harbor watcher."

The city occupies a natural peninsula with limestone cliffs and a river delta that protects its quay districts. The core is dense with stone merchants’ houses and shipyards, while outer districts house markets, crafts, and residential quarters.

Founded in the early medieval era by seafaring clans, Athrar grew as a trade link between inland caravans and overseas markets. It gained autonomy amid regional conflicts and joined the Athran Confederacy in the modern era.

Athrar is governed by a Council of Merchants representing major guilds, with a ceremonial mayor. The Harbor Court administers civil and mercantile law. Its economy centers on port services, shipbuilding, grain and textile trade, and related crafts.

The population is diverse, including Athran speakers and immigrant communities. Public life centers on the harbor, with the annual Festival of Tides. Education is provided by Harbor University and guild schools; religion is focused on sea shrines.
