Asystoleiden

Asystoleiden is a term that refers to a lack of coordinated electrical activity in the heart's atria. Unlike atrial fibrillation, where there is rapid, disorganized atrial electrical activity, asystoleiden signifies a complete absence of atrial depolarization. This means the atria are not contracting or pumping blood effectively. While the term specifically denotes atrial inactivity, it is often encountered in the context of a broader cardiac arrest scenario, where there is also a lack of ventricular activity, commonly referred to as asystole.

In clinical practice, asystoleiden is typically identified on an electrocardiogram (ECG) as a flat line in the atrial waveforms, or a complete absence of P waves. This is a critical finding that indicates a severe disruption of the heart's electrical system.
