Astrologers

An astrologer is a practitioner who interprets the positions and movements of celestial bodies to provide insights, forecasts, or guidance. Astrologers work within several traditions, most notably Western, Vedic (Indian), and Chinese astrology, and may consult for individuals, organizations, or media audiences.

Common methods include constructing a birth chart, or natal chart, from the date, time, and place of birth, and interpreting the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets within the zodiac signs and astrological houses. Techniques such as aspects, transits, progressions, and synastry (relationship astrology) are used to develop readings and forecasts. Tools include ephemerides, chart wheels, and horoscopes.

Astrology has ancient roots in Mesopotamia and was developed in Hellenistic Greece, later influencing Indian and Chinese traditions. In modern times, astrology remains widely practiced and is also present in popular media, including daily horoscopes and user-friendly apps.

Training for astrologers varies. Some learn through formal courses or mentoring, while others study independently. Professional associations exist in many countries, but there is no universal licensing or standardized credentialing.

Astrology is not supported by scientific evidence and is often classified as a pseudoscience by the scientific community. Advocates emphasize symbolic interpretation and personal insight. Critics point to cognitive biases and the lack of falsifiable predictions. Ethical considerations include client privacy, informed consent, and avoiding exploitation or guarantee of outcomes.
