Artroskoopi

Artroskoopi is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to examine, diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint. The term "arthroscopy" comes from the Greek words "arthron" meaning joint and "skopein" meaning to look. It involves making small incisions around the affected joint, through which a small camera called an arthroscope is inserted. This camera projects magnified images onto a monitor, allowing the surgeon to visualize the internal structures of the joint without the need for a large incision.

The arthroscope is typically a thin, rigid tube with a light source and a lens. Saline solution is often infused into the joint to distend it, improving visibility and creating space for the surgeon to work. Surgical instruments, such as miniature scalpels, graspers, and shavers, can be passed through separate small incisions to perform repairs or remove damaged tissue.

Artroskoopi is commonly performed on the knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, elbow, and wrist. It is used to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including torn ligaments and cartilage, inflamed joint linings, and early stages of osteoarthritis. The advantages of arthroscopy over traditional open surgery include smaller scars, reduced pain, and faster recovery times. However, like any surgical procedure, it carries some risks, such as infection or bleeding.
