Artitilor is a term used in contemporary art to describe a hybrid practice that merges artisanal craft techniques with digital, generative, or algorithmic processes to create artworks that often invite viewer participation. The term has circulated in European and North American art discourse since the late 2010s and is used to describe a spectrum of projects rather than a single style or movement.

Origin and concept: Artitilor emerged from critiques of the growing overlap between handmade production and algorithmic fabrication. It emphasizes material inquiry, tactility, and the blurring of authorial roles between craftspeople, designers, and programmers. The term does not designate a fixed canon but a family of approaches that privilege process, collaboration, and open-ended outcomes.

Techniques and formats: Practitioners combine traditional crafts such as weaving, woodworking, metalwork, or ceramics with digital tools like generative software, 3D printing, CNC machining, or sensor networks. Works may be installations, sculptures, performances, or interactive pieces that respond to viewer input, data streams, or environmental conditions.

Reception and critique: Critics view artitilor as a way to democratize production, bridge craft and media arts, and address questions of labor and authorship in the age of digital fabrication. Detractors caution that the label can be used too loosely or employed to market technocraft without substantive critical inquiry.
