Aromiprofiilien

Aromiprofiilien, or aroma profiles, are a systematic representation of how a substance smells, describing the quality (notes), the intensity, and how the aroma evolves over time. They provide a sensory fingerprint that captures both what the aroma is like and how it changes from onset to lingering odor.

Aromiprofiilien are developed through sensory analysis, typically using trained panels and descriptive analysis methods. They rely on standardized lexicons or aroma wheels to describe odor attributes consistently. A profile usually includes broad note categories such as citrus, floral, fruity, green, herbal, woody, spicy, resinous, and earthy, and often distinguishes top (volatile) notes from middle and base notes to reflect temporal progression.

Methods and data in aromiprofiilien include intensity ratings, frequency of attributes, and time-intensity measurements. Advanced approaches may combine descriptive sensory data with instrumental techniques like GC-Olfactometry to link perceived notes to specific compounds. The result is a multi-attribute representation or a sensory map that can be used for comparison and analysis.

Applications of aromiprofiilien span several industries. In perfumery and fragrance development, they guide blending, formulation, and evaluation. In the food and beverage sector, they aid product development, quality control, authenticity checks, and shelf-life studies.
