Arnala

Arnala is an island off the coast of Vasai in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, India. It is best known for Arnala Fort, a coastal fortification built by the Portuguese in the 16th century to guard the harbour and the maritime routes to Bassein (Vasai) and Mumbai. The fort sits at the seaward edge of the island and comprises largely ruined walls and remnants of bastions, reflecting the characteristics of a small defensive outpost rather than a large fortress.
