Armbands

An armband is a strip that is worn around the upper arm. It can be made from fabric, leather, plastic, or rubber and is used for identification, signaling, or decorative purposes. Armbands appear in sports, workplaces, healthcare, crowds, and fashion.

Common uses include captain's armbands in team sports, which designate the team captain; identification armbands worn by staff, volunteers, or security personnel at events or facilities; and awareness or memorial armbands that convey information or support for a cause. In hospitals or clinics, armbands may help indicate role or patient status in some systems.

Designs vary widely. They may be elastic or adjustable, secured with Velcro, buckles, snaps, or ties. Materials range from cotton, polyester, and nylon to silicone and reflective films for visibility. Some armbands are reusable, while others are disposable or intended as accessories.

Historically, armbands have carried symbolic meanings in many contexts. They have been used as identifiers by sports teams, workers, and political groups. The armband became associated with certain political movements in the 20th century. Today, their use is generally regulated by context and design to avoid confusion or offense.

Care and safety: Follow washing instructions for the material. Keep elastic bands from overstretching and inspect for wear or fraying. For visibility, choose reflective or high-contrast designs in dim environments. Ensure the size is appropriate to prevent circulation issues.
