Arktilistes

Arktilistes is a genus of extinct mammals that lived during the Paleocene epoch. The name "Arktilistes" is derived from Greek words meaning "Arctic" and "thief," hinting at its northern distribution and presumed predatory habits. Fossils attributed to Arktilistes have been found in North America, specifically in deposits dating back approximately 60 to 55 million years ago.

The animals were relatively small, with estimated body sizes comparable to that of a modern ferret or weasel. Their skeletal remains suggest a terrestrial lifestyle, with adaptations for running and possibly climbing. Arktilistes possessed sharp teeth, indicating a carnivorous or omnivorous diet, likely consisting of small vertebrates, insects, and plant matter.
