Arilian
Arilian is a small, sparsely populated island located in the western archipelago of the Pacific. Covering an area of approximately 40 square kilometres, it sits at a latitude of 27°N and a longitude of 122°E, and is part of the autonomous region of the Federated Islands. The island’s topography is dominated by a central volcanic cone that reaches 650 metres above sea level, with surrounding coastal plains that are largely composed of sandy beaches and mangrove forests. The volcanic soil supports a limited but productive agriculture sector that typically focuses on root crops such as taro and cassava, as well as small-scale sugarcane cultivation.
The population of Arilian is estimated at 3,500 residents, who are predominantly of Polynesian descent. The
Arilian's economy is modest and largely supported by remittances from diaspora communities in larger Pacific cities.
