Arenicolites
Arenicolites is a trace fossil that represents the burrow of a marine worm. These trace fossils are typically found in sandstone or siltstone layers and are characterized by their U-shape. The arms of the U are usually vertical or slightly inclined, and the connecting burrow at the bottom can be rounded or angular. Arenicolites burrows are often preserved as internal molds, where the sediment filled the void left by the worm's activity. They can also be preserved as hyporeliefs on the underside of bedding planes, showing the cast of the burrow.
The organism that created Arenicolites is thought to be a polychaete worm, likely belonging to the family
Arenicolites is an important indicator of paleoenvironmental conditions. Its presence suggests a shallow marine environment, likely
