Aquiferous
Aquiferous is an adjective used in hydrogeology and geology to describe rocks or sediments that are capable of storing, transmitting, and yielding groundwater. An aquiferous formation contains a saturated zone that can supply water to wells, springs, or other withdrawal points with recoverable quantities. The term contrasts with aquitards or aquicludes, which impede groundwater flow, though the same rock unit may be aquiferous in one portion and less so in another.
Aquiferous materials include unconsolidated sediments such as sand and gravel, as well as fractured or karstified
Recharge occurs through infiltration from rainfall, surface water bodies, or leakage from engineered systems; discharge occurs
Aquiferous formations underpin many regional water resources, supporting municipal supply, agriculture, and industry. They are susceptible
