The term blends the Dutch word applicatie (application) with listing and is used in contexts such as IT asset management, software procurement, and governance.

As a core component of software asset management and configuration governance, applicatielisting is often integrated with a configuration management database (CMDB) and procurement records. It serves as a centralized reference that supports visibility, control, and decision-making across software acquisitions, deployments, and lifecycle management.

Fields typically included are application name, version, vendor, license type and terms, installation or deployment method, platform, cost, renewal dates, and end-of-life information, as well as security posture, risk indicators, and dependencies. Additional metadata may cover ownership, approval status, deployment environment (on-premises, cloud, or hybrid), and usage metrics.

Creation and maintenance involve automated discovery tools, manual data entry, and routine audits to ensure accuracy. Ownership is usually assigned to IT asset management, security, or procurement teams. Data quality is maintained through standardized definitions, regular reconciliation with invoices and contracts, and integration with other IT systems.
