Anesthesierisiko refers to the potential complications or adverse events that can occur during or after the administration of anesthesia. While modern anesthesia is generally considered very safe, no medical procedure is entirely risk-free. The specific risks associated with anesthesia depend on various factors, including the type of anesthesia (general, regional, or local), the patient's overall health status, pre-existing medical conditions, the nature of the surgical procedure, and the skill of the anesthesia provider.

Common, though rare, risks can include allergic reactions to anesthetic agents, nausea and vomiting after waking up, sore throat, bruising or pain at the injection site for regional or intravenous anesthesia, and temporary confusion or disorientation, particularly in older adults. More serious, but significantly less common, risks can involve breathing difficulties, damage to nerves, teeth, or vocal cords, heart problems such as irregular heartbeat or heart attack, stroke, or in extremely rare instances, death.

The likelihood of these risks is carefully assessed by the anesthesiologist before any procedure. Patients are typically asked to provide a detailed medical history, including any allergies, previous experiences with anesthesia, and current medications. This information, along with a physical examination, allows the anesthesia provider to tailor the anesthetic plan to minimize potential risks and ensure patient safety throughout the surgical process. Continuous monitoring of vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and breathing is standard practice during anesthesia to detect and manage any emergent issues promptly.
