Specializations include financial analysts who evaluate investments, credit risk, and corporate performance; market and business analysts who study market conditions, competitive landscapes, and process improvements; data analysts who extract insights from datasets; policy analysts who assess impacts of programs or regulations; and risk analysts who identify potential threats and mitigation strategies.

Typical duties involve collecting and cleaning data, building analytical models, conducting statistical analyses, generating reports and dashboards, creating forecasts, presenting findings, supporting decision making, and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs).

Education and skills typically include a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, statistics, computer science, or related fields; advanced degrees or professional certifications (such as CFA for finance) are common. Essential capabilities include quantitative reasoning, programming or querying (Excel, SQL, Python, R), data visualization, critical thinking, communication, and domain knowledge.
