Analytiker

An analytiker is a professional who studies data and information to understand phenomena, identify patterns, evaluate options, and support decision-making. The term is used in Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish to denote a person who conducts analysis in a variety of domains. It derives from the Greek analytikos through Latin and modern European languages, with English equivalents such as analyst.

Analytikers typically perform tasks such as data collection and cleaning; statistical or qualitative analysis; modeling and forecasting; evaluating risks; preparing reports; and communicating findings to stakeholders. They may work with data sets, dashboards, and visualization tools, and are often expected to ensure data quality and methodological rigor.

Fields and titles: Analysts are employed across many sectors. In business and finance, a business analyst or financial analyst interprets market data and performance metrics. In IT and engineering, data analysts and operations analysts examine systems and processes. In science and research, research analysts support experiments and literature reviews. In public policy and journalism, policy analysts and information analysts assess impacts and frame narratives.

Skills and education: Most analytiker roles require a university degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or related fields. Proficiency with statistical software and data platforms (for example Excel, SQL, Python or R) and data visualization is common. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and clear communication are essential.

Career prospects: Analytiker roles can lead to senior analyst positions, data science pathways, or management responsibilities, depending on experience and specialization.
