Anaheim

Anaheim is a city located in Orange County, California, United States. It sits in the southern part of the state, roughly 25 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The city is widely recognized for its tourism and entertainment industries, anchored by the Disneyland Resort, which includes Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, and a range of convention, shopping, and hospitality facilities.

Historically, Anaheim was founded in 1857 by German immigrant settlers who established a farming community. It was incorporated as a city in 1876. The early economy centered on citrus and agriculture, with growth accelerating as transportation and suburban development expanded in the 20th century.

Economy and districts. Anaheim’s economy today relies heavily on tourism, conventions, retail, and light manufacturing. It hosts major venues such as the Anaheim Convention Center, California’s largest convention center, and neighborhood districts including the Anaheim Resort, the Platinum Triangle, and the Anaheim Packing District, a revitalized historic area that blends dining and cultural spaces.

Attractions and sports. In addition to the Disneyland Resort, the city is home to sports venues that host professional teams and events, including the Honda Center (home to the NHL’s Ducks) and Angel Stadium of Anaheim (home to MLB’s Los Angeles Angels). These facilities contribute to a year-round tourism and events economy.

Transportation. Major highways serving Anaheim include Interstates 5 and 57. The Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC), opened in 2015, provides rail connections via Amtrak and Metrolink. Public transit is provided by local and regional agencies, including the Anaheim Transportation Network and OCTA.

Government and demographics. Anaheim operates under a council-manager form of government, with an elected City Council and mayor. The city serves a diverse population and a range of neighborhoods, reflecting a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

Education. The city is served by multiple school districts, including Anaheim Union High School District, and hosts various private and higher-education options in the region.
