Amuttava

Amuttava is a term that appears in ancient Indian philosophical and religious texts, particularly within the context of Jainism. It generally refers to a state of liberation or emancipation from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. This liberation is achieved through the attainment of complete knowledge and the eradication of all karmic impurities.

In Jainism, the concept of amuttava is closely tied to the path of spiritual purification. Adherents believe that by practicing right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct, one can shed accumulated karma, which is seen as the cause of worldly bondage. Upon the complete exhaustion of karma, the soul, or jiva, is freed from the material realm and ascends to a state of eternal bliss and omniscience, known as moksha or amuttava.

The attainment of amuttava signifies the ultimate goal of Jain spiritual practice. It is a state of perfect purity, infinite perception, infinite knowledge, and infinite happiness, where the liberated soul resides in its true, unadulterated form. This state is considered unchanging and beyond all suffering and limitations. The term emphasizes the complete freedom and transcendence from the material universe and its inherent imperfections.
