Alvaniseerd is a Dutch term referring to the process of galvanizing, which is a method of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron to prevent rusting. This coating is typically applied through a hot-dip process where the metal is immersed in a bath of molten zinc. The zinc reacts with the iron or steel to form a series of alloys that are metallurgically bonded to the base metal. This creates a durable and corrosion-resistant surface.

The alvanisatie process is widely used in construction, automotive manufacturing, and for everyday items like nails, screws, and fencing. The zinc layer acts as a barrier, preventing corrosive elements from reaching the underlying metal. Additionally, zinc provides cathodic protection, meaning that if the coating is scratched, the zinc will still protect the exposed steel by corroding preferentially.
