Aluokan

Aluokan is a fictional sovereign region created for worldbuilding and speculative fiction. It is described as a chain of temperate islands located in a large sea, with a varied coastline and interior forested highlands.

The federation consists of nine principal islands and numerous islets connected by ferries and causeways. The climate is maritime temperate with mild winters and warm summers; ecosystems include mangroves, coral reefs, and cloud forests.

The Aluokan people trace roots to early maritime communities who formed a loose confederation by the 12th century. In the 20th century, following decolonization movements in the fictional region, Aluokan established a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The capital is Portale.

As of the latest fictional census, the population is around 3 million. The Aluokan language is the majority language; several minority languages are spoken in coastal towns. Literacy and education are high, and there is a tradition of bilingual schooling.

The economy is diversified, emphasizing sustainable fishing, eco-tourism, agriculture, and light manufacturing. Ports and shipping services connect Aluokan to regional markets. The government pursues renewable energy, including wind and tidal power.

Cultural life centers on coastal maritime traditions, crafts such as mat weaving and ropework, and maritime music. The archipelago hosts protected coral reefs and forest reserves, and settlement patterns reflect a strong coastal orientation.
