Alumiinifoliot

Alumiinifoliot, commonly called aluminum foil, are thin sheets of aluminium pressed into a flexible film. They are typically produced by hammering large slabs of aluminium or by rolling aluminium blanks and stretching them to very thin gauges, often between 0.016 and 0.08 millimetres. The sheets are then wrapped or flattened on rolls for packaging, distribution and use in households and industry.

The material’s light weight, high thermal conductivity, and resistance to corrosion make it popular for a variety of applications. In cooking and food storage, alumiinifoliot are used to wrap food to keep it fresh, seal containers, or line pans for baking. The foil reflects heat, so it can protect food during cooking and aids in even temperature distribution. In electrical engineering, it is employed as a shielding material because aluminium is an effective reflector of electromagnetic radiation, reducing interference in sensitive electronics.

Alumiinifoliot are also used in construction where they act as part of vapor barriers, insulating layers, and for soundproofing. In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries they serve as packaging for temperature-sensitive products or as a protective layer in transport.

Though aluminium is recyclable, the production of fresh foil requires energy-intensive processes that emit greenhouse gases. Recycling is common in many regions and can lower the environmental footprint of new products by reducing the need for primary aluminium extraction. Disposal of aluminium foil that has come into contact with food can be problematic because the foil is not biodegradable; however, post-consumer recycling programmes help mitigate this issue.
