Altrohr

Altrohr is a small municipality in a rural region of Central Europe. It covers an area of about 24 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 3,100 people. The local government operates under a mayor-council system, with a council of 12 members and a mayor as executive.

Geographically, Altrohr lies in the Alt Valley, along the banks of the river Alt. The landscape consists of rolling hills, mixed forests, and agricultural fields. Elevation ranges from 250 to 520 meters above sea level. The climate is temperate, with cold winters and mild summers; average annual precipitation is around 700 to 800 millimeters.

Altrohr is first documented in a 1250 charter. It developed as an agricultural community within various feudal lordships before becoming part of the modern state system in the 19th century. A parish church dating from the late Gothic period remains a historical landmark. The municipality underwent administrative reforms in the late 20th century, shaping contemporary governance structures.

Economy centers on agriculture, particularly dairy farming and cereal crops; small crafts and food processing also contribute. Tourism exists around hiking trails and the historic townscape. Altrohr is connected by regional roads; the nearest railway station lies about 12 to 15 kilometers away. Local public transport is served by a bus network. Public services include a primary school, a kindergarten, a small clinic, and a volunteer fire brigade.

Cultural life centers on the annual harvest festival in autumn and a tradition of local crafts. The St. Marys Church, dating to the 14th century, is a notable architectural feature. The municipality maintains a small library and hosts occasional cultural events.
