Altran

Altran was a French multinational engineering and research and development (R&D) services company founded in 1982. Based in the Paris region, it built a global network delivering engineering consulting and product development services across technology and manufacturing sectors. The company offered services throughout the product life cycle, including concept and design, prototyping, testing, systems engineering, software and hardware development, simulation, and digital engineering, as well as strategic R&D advisory. Its client base spanned automotive, aerospace, defense, life sciences, energy, telecommunications, and consumer electronics, with activities in Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific.

Altran’s business concentrated on helping clients bring complex, technology-intensive products to market. It emphasized integration across disciplines, combining mechanical, electrical, and software engineering with simulation, validation, and manufacturing support. The firm also pursued digital transformation initiatives, including data analytics, model-based engineering, and connected product development, to support customers in industries undergoing rapid technological change.

In March 2019, Capgemini announced an agreement to acquire Altran for about €3.6 billion, aiming to strengthen Capgemini’s capabilities in engineering and R&D services. The acquisition was completed in 2020, and Altran was integrated into Capgemini’s engineering and R&D services framework. The Altran brand was retired as a standalone entity, with the business line later rebranded as Capgemini Engineering, forming one of the world’s largest engineering services groups within Capgemini.
