Alternatív

Alternatív is the Hungarian adjective meaning "alternative" and is used to describe choices, approaches, or styles that differ from a mainstream, conventional, or established option. The word is a loan translation of the international term "alternative," adapted to Hungarian orthography and phonology; the acute accent on the final vowel indicates a long vowel sound. In ordinary use it modifies nouns (for example alternatív energia, alternatív zene) and can be nominalized in contexts where an alternative option or movement is meant (az alternatív).
