Aliupseerit

Aliupseerit is the collective term for non-commissioned officers in the Finnish Defence Forces. The word is Finnish for “under officers,” and it designates the group of personnel who have professional leadership training and hold supervisory, but non-commissioned, command roles. The term is used to refer to the entire aliupseeristo, the NCO corps, which spans the army, navy, and air force.

Role and responsibilities: Aliupseerit serve as direct supervisors of enlisted personnel, small-unit leaders, and instructors. They are responsible for daily training, discipline, welfare, and operational readiness. Advancement through aliupseer ranks is based on merit, experience, and participation in ongoing professional education, including leadership and technical courses.
