Albuminkreatinin is a laboratory test that measures the ratio of albumin to creatinine in a urine sample. It is primarily used to detect and monitor kidney disease, particularly in individuals with diabetes or high blood pressure, which are common risk factors for kidney damage. The test helps to identify the presence of microalbuminuria, a condition where small amounts of albumin are leaked into the urine, often an early sign of kidney problems.

Albumin is a protein normally found in the blood, and its presence in urine in significant amounts indicates that the kidneys' filtering units, the glomeruli, may be damaged. Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscles, and its concentration in urine is generally stable. By comparing the amount of albumin to creatinine, the albuminkreatinin ratio provides a more accurate assessment of albumin excretion than a simple urine albumin test, as it accounts for variations in urine concentration.
