Aksonitest

Aksonitest is a term used in parts of the medical and neurophysiological literature to describe a diagnostic approach focused on assessing axonal integrity or function, particularly in peripheral nerves. The name combines the word for axon with a generic “-test” suffix and is used mainly in regional or specialty contexts. It is not a standardized term in major clinical guidelines, and its exact meaning can vary between sources.

In practice, aksonitest may refer to electrophysiological procedures that aim to evaluate axonal conduction along a nerve. Typical methods involve electrical stimulation of a peripheral nerve at one site and recording responses at another, distal site. Common measurements include conduction velocity, distal latency, and peak-to-peak amplitude of evoked potentials. The approach emphasizes axonal transmission properties and can help distinguish axonal from demyelinating processes when interpreted alongside clinical findings and other tests.

Applications of aksonitest-like assessments include the evaluation of peripheral neuropathies, monitoring disease progression, and distinguishing different patterns of nerve injury.
