Aikomus
Aikomus is a small genus of terrestrial arthropods belonging to the family Pseudomyriidae within the order Myriapoda. First described in 1924 by the Italian arachnologist Giovanni Vallini, the genus was named after the ancient city of Aikumu, reflecting the region where the type species was collected. Five species are currently recognized, with Aikomus lineatus and Aikomus filum comprising the majority of documented specimens. The genus is distinguished by its elongated bodies, segmented exoskeletons, and six well-developed pairs of legs, as well as a unique set of cheliceral bristles that differentiate them from closely related genera.
Members of Aikomus are typically found in damp, leaf-litter ecosystems of temperate forests. They exhibit nocturnal
