Aibileen
Aibileen is a central character in Kathryn Stockett's 2009 novel, The Help, and its 2011 film adaptation. She is an African American maid working in Jackson, Mississippi, during the early 1960s. Aibileen is depicted as a kind, wise, and deeply maternal figure, having raised seventeen white children over the course of her career. However, she also carries the profound grief of losing her own son, Treelore, who died in an industrial accident, a tragedy that she believes was exacerbated by the racial injustices of the time.
