Aderenas is a city-state in the fictional continent of Valara, serving as a major economic and cultural hub. It lies on the eastern coast along the Gulf of Lyria, at the delta of the Serene River, with surrounding low hills and marshland. The climate is temperate, with wet winters and dry summers.

History: Aderenas traces its origins to merchant clans that settled in the 7th century, building a port connected to inland markets. It grew as a trading federation and was established as a constitutional republic in the 14th century. In later centuries it expanded its harbor facilities and joined regional trade pacts, shaping its modern urban layout.

Government: The city-state operates as a constitutional republic. The Mayor is the head of state, while legislative authority rests with a bicameral Assembly (the Senate and the Assembly) and an independent judiciary. Elections occur every four years.

Economy: Aderenas’ economy centers on port trade, shipbuilding, textiles, wine, and citrus production. The harbor serves regional cargo traffic and intercity ferries, making the city a gateway to inland Valara. The adel serves as the principal currency.

Demographics and culture: The population is about 260,000 and culturally diverse. Aderenic is the official language, with a broad trade dialect common in markets. The city hosts the Lotus Market and an Autumn Festival, and features ochre-stone architecture and timber-framed streets.

Institutions: Notable entities include the Aureate Academy of Letters and Sciences, the Royal Dockyards, and regional libraries and museums.
