Acid2
Acid2 is a web page published by The Web Standards Project in 2008 to test the adherence of web browsers to web standards, specifically CSS 2.1 and the Acid1 test. It was designed as a successor to Acid1, which focused on CSS 1. The Acid2 test page presents a complex graphic made of various elements, including text, images, and interactive form controls, all styled using CSS. A browser that correctly renders Acid2 will display a smiling yellow face. The page is intentionally designed to expose rendering differences between browsers, particularly in their implementation of CSS properties, layout models, and object models. Its success was measured by how accurately a browser rendered the page compared to the intended design. The Acid2 test was significant in driving browser vendors to improve their standards compliance. It highlighted inconsistencies and bugs that needed to be addressed to ensure a more predictable and interoperable web experience. While Acid2 was a crucial benchmark, the web has evolved significantly since its creation, leading to the development of subsequent tests like Acid3.
