Absorptiolle

Absorptiolle is a hypothetical class of nano-structured materials designed to achieve enhanced light absorption across a broad spectral range, with emphasis on the visible to near-infrared region. The concept supports applications in energy conversion, sensing, and photothermal therapy.

Composition and structure: Absorptiolles are described as porous inorganic–organic composites featuring a scaffold (often silica- or aluminosilicate-based) loaded with plasmonic metal nanoparticles and conjugated organic chromophores. Close spatial arrangement and chemical compatibility promote cooperative optical interactions.

Mechanism: Absorption arises from multiple channels, including plasmonic resonances that amplify local fields, broadband absorption from the chromophores, and resonant energy transfer between components. The result is an extended absorption band and increased extinction compared with the separate constituents.

Properties and performance: Reported absorptiolles exhibit high extinction coefficients, tunable spectral coverage by adjusting composition, and thermal/photochemical stability under simulated illumination. Porosity and loading density can be controlled to balance absorption, scattering, and processability.

Applications and potential: Suggested uses include solar energy harvesting, photothermal therapy, and optical sensing. In photovoltaics, absorptiolles could supplement conventional absorbers; in sensing, their broad absorption can enhance spectroscopic signals.
