Abschweifung
Abschweifung is a German term for the act or result of deviating from the main topic, line of argument, or path, in speech, writing, or discourse. Etymology: ab- (away) plus schweifen (to wander) and the noun-forming suffix -ung. In rhetoric and narrative, an Abschweifung is a digression: a passage that interrupts the central thread to present related background, anecdote, or tangential detail.
